| prospero (pro’spero) - 1 magician in Shakespeare’s The Tempest; 2 giver of the power of language; 3 excellence in strategic communications. How did a character in a play by Shakespeare come to inspire a strategic communications firm? Our vision and Prospero’s story are closely entwined. The scene is set at sea. Prospero, a nobleman and dabbler in white magic, has lost his dukedom to the enemy. Outcast and exiled on an enchanted island, he raises a great tempest that churns the ocean and destroys everything in its wake. One by one, he calls on all his magical powers to fill the void left by the loss of his political might. Prospero can conjure up fairies, cast a blanket of snow over his rivals, and confer the power of speech on animals and savages. So it comes to pass that Caliban, a mute creature of the island’s underworld, is magically enabled to communicate. | At Prospero Communications, we share Shakespeare’s faith in the power of language. But we don’t believe in fairies. Instead, we believe there’s no substitute for good thinking, real talent and hard work. Still, there’s something magical about the way that messages find an audience, are interpreted by people with different mindsets and still recognized as meaningful. Even more magical is their capacity to mobilize people to take action and accomplish shared goals. That magic is quite simply the power of communication – the realization that connecting with each other, in business as in art, matters. |
